In his book The City – A Global History, author Joel Kotkin presents cities as the most potent of humankind’s creations, and as he calls “the most eloquent expression of the species ingenuity, beliefs and expressions”. While discussing the history of cities and their growth, and how cities attempt to change their branding or orientation, Joel Kotkin speaks of the American city Atlanta’s efforts at becoming global by hosting the Olympics.
